In the vast universe of The Wheel of Time, the clash between light and darkness is still in its early stages. While a few adversaries have shown their colors, the vast majority remain hidden. The inaugural season portrayed Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) in a race against time to find the Dragon Reborn to curb an impending threat. Alas, her journey was in vain. Presently, Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski) has proclaimed himself as the Dragon, intensifying the ongoing strife. The revival of an age-old war sees previous adversaries breaking free. The enigmatic Ishamael (Fares Fares), deputy of the Dark One, is orchestrating sinister plots behind the scenes. He’s gathering covert supporters and is on a quest to sway Rand. Meanwhile, another formidable opponent, Lanfear (Natasha O’Keeffe), is vying for Rand’s allegiance. Identifying foes becomes a herculean task, as the list keeps expanding.

Ishamael and Lanfear instigate trepidation – their ill-repute speaks louder than their actions on screen. These individuals are part of the Forsaken, a group of formidable channelers who once served the Dark One during the historic War of Power. This elusive group, although known by a myriad of names, often refers to themselves as “Those Chosen To Rule The World Forever” or simply, the Chosen. Their ominous nicknames such as the shadowsouled only add to their mystique. With time, this term has been reserved for the most notorious thirteen followers of the Shadow, encompassing the likes of Ishamael, Lanfear, and eleven others.

In the bygone days, the ancient Aes Sedai wielded an unparalleled power, especially those aligned with the Dark One. Each of the notorious thirteen was armed with distinct abilities, which they employed to serve the Shadow’s interests. Contrary to popular belief that they were imprisoned since the dawn of time, the Forsaken were birthed during the Age of Legends. Their malevolence was a polar opposite to the harmonious utilization of the One Power by others. The peaceful Age of Legends met its downfall when Lanfear, then Mierin Eronaile, stumbled upon a power distinct from the One Power. This inadvertently liberated the Dark One’s power, annihilating the idyllic age.

Subsequently, Lanfear and her cohorts pledged allegiance to the Dark One, seeking power and eternity. Ascending swiftly through the ranks due to their formidable channeling prowess and readiness to employ violence, they wreaked havoc. Their endeavors during the War of Power were characterized by ruthlessness. Their respective abilities were weaponized to dismantle the world. Ishamael, the most potent among them, led them into battle and was thus christened the Betrayer of Hope.

Each Forsaken had a unique approach, be it military expertise or cunning manipulation. Lanfear exploited the dream realm, while Aginor engineered deadly creatures for the Dark One. Semirhage reveled in torture, and Moghedien showcased her prowess in espionage. At the war’s climax, Lews Therin Telamon subdued and incarcerated them alongside the Dark One. However, with several of the Seals that bound them now shattered, they are making a return.

Ishamael and Lanfear, staunch servants of the Dark One, have made their presence known, with others soon to follow suit. Ishamael, after his escape, confronts Rand and subsequently rallies more supporters. The second season has already showcased him liberating Lanfear. This duo is anticipated to release their counterparts, if not already in the process. However, their alliance is a tenuous one, marred by internal rivalry. Their common goal, aside from serving the Dark One, is to ascend to the coveted rank of Nae’blis. Yet, their unmatched training and foresight render them formidable adversaries. Their ability to remain incognito poses a significant threat. Lanfear’s clandestine presence around Rand is a testament to this. With the Forsaken resuming their legacy of devastation, the heroes might be overwhelmed. Their ultimate objective remains unchanged: sow chaos. The critical query is whether Rand, the Dragon Reborn, possesses the might to thwart their plans.

Stay tuned for more twists and turns as new episodes of The Wheel of Time Season 2 unveil every Friday on Prime Video.

    Conclusion

The universe of The Wheel of Time unravels an intricate dance between light and shadow. With the Forsaken reentering the scene, the balance of power is threatened. As heroes rise to challenge them, the stakes are higher than ever. Only time will tell if Rand, as the Dragon Reborn, can steer the course of destiny in favor of the light.
