Devotees of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are on tenterhooks for the much-awaited return of Loki in its sophomore season, set to take the reins following Secret Invasion. The upcoming sequence of episodes heralds the comeback of Owen Wilson’s character, Mobius M. Mobius, who has quickly become a fan-favorite.
Maintaining an air of mystery surrounding his specific role in the forthcoming season, Wilson nevertheless provided assurance to fans. Speaking in a conversation with ComicBook, he affirmed fans’ chances to delve deeper into the backstory of his character, Mobius.
Reflecting on his stint filming the inaugural season, Wilson elaborated on his enjoyment during the process. With an extensive filmography comprising countless films, Wilson contrasted his generally enjoyable experiences with the exceptional fun he had on the set of Loki, stating,
“I thought I would have a good time but I really enjoyed it. I’ve been lucky working on a million movies and always having a good time but on that one, I had a really great time and that continued on Season Two. Maybe even moreso because we were filming in London and being there at Pinewood but yeah, [his story] just goes deeper.”
The filming in the iconic London location, Pinewood, seemed to have amplified the joy on set, where Mobius’s character was developed in greater depth.
Adding a dash of intrigue about his character’s backstory, Wilson mentioned the contemplations about integrating glimpses of Mobius’s potential family life into the scripts. However, a mutual decision was made to retain an element of ambiguity.
The former director of Loki, Kate Herron, provided insight into this decision, suggesting that the mystery around Mobius’s past amplifies the excitement and emotional resonance, particularly when his existence is in jeopardy. Herron disclosed,
“So I think for us, we had spoken about, I think there were a few drafts of the script where you did see like a family or you did see a life, but I think we all kind of decided we don’t know what it is yet. And I think that’s exciting, right? Because it gives more road to travel with him. And I think it’s more painful when he is going to be deleted, him saying, ‘What if I had a family’ Because, maybe he did or maybe he didn’t, I don’t know where the writers will take his character.”
On the topic of reusing scenes written for the first season, the strategy remains uncertain.
Mobius and Loki Join Forces to Safeguard Timelines in Season 2
Tom Hiddleston will continue his role as the God of Mischief, Loki. The time-hopping adventures are set to resume on Disney+ starting October 6th, as Loki once again allies with Mobius in a mission to guard the timelines.
Following the riveting climax of the first season, which depicted Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) defeating He Who Remains, instigating Kang the Conqueror’s wrath upon the Multiverse, Loki is thrust once again into a whirlwind of events aimed at preventing the collapse of reality.
Last seen in the post-credits sequence of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Loki and Mobius were found monitoring one of Kang’s mysterious variants. Thus, the second season of Loki is primed to further the Multiverse Saga narrative in the MCU.
Undoubtedly, fans can expect a season bursting with excitement, unexpected plot twists, and a deeper exploration of their favorite characters’ worlds.
