Dystopia has a date with our television screens again as Miracle Workers, the original series by TBS, makes a comeback for its fourth season. Venturing into the aesthetics of Mad Max, this season, aptly titled Miracle Workers: End Times, introduces us to a world on the brink of annihilation. In the desolate landscape, we meet Sid and Freya, newlywed protagonists daringly embarking on a suburban journey in a locale known as Boomtown. However, their expectations of a tranquil life soon meet with harsh realities, and the struggle to keep their heads above water begins. Notwithstanding the trials that life hurls at them, they stand shoulder to shoulder, offering each other a steady pillar of support.
The journey of Miracle Workers: End Times to its premiere has been quite tumultuous. Initially, the fourth season was slated for a grand opening on January 16 this year. However, an abrupt reprogramming at TNET delayed the airing of three TBS and TNT shows, including End Times, The Lazarus Project, and The Cube. The latter two have already aired, with End Times finally setting its premiere for July after a declaration at the end of May.
As we eagerly wait for Season 4, let’s introduce the key returning actors of Miracle Workers: End Times and the roles they are about to play.
Daniel Radcliffe as Sid
Daniel Radcliffe dons the role of Sid, a road warrior just entering the wedlock with Freya. While Sid is elated about beginning this new chapter of life with Freya, he soon realizes that not even an apocalypse can simplify the challenges that lay ahead. Their struggles in suburban living force Sid to secure a job at a junk shop to ensure a decent life for him and Freya. It may not be an ideal situation, but it will help keep the wolf from the door.
From a wide-eyed boy wizard in the Harry Potter series to more recent versatile roles, Radcliffe has come a long way in establishing his acting prowess. He has showcased his talent in movies like Swiss Army Man, Now You See Me 2, and Horns. He has also graced the television screen with Netflix’s new series Mulligan, Roku’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and guest appearances in Digman!, Rick and Morty, and The Simpsons, among others.
Geraldine Viswanathan as Freya Exaltada
Playing the mighty Freya, Geraldine Viswanathan breathes life into a warlord, a wasteland conqueror, and a fresh homeowner. Like Sid, Freya also grapples with the unexpected challenges of married life, but her indomitable spirit remains unfazed. Freya, with her parents belonging to the exceptionally wealthy .001% demographic, carries a distinct sense of pride. However, whether she will seek their financial assistance or navigate the choppy waters with Sid remains to be seen.
Viswanathan has been progressively expanding her portfolio, featuring in various shorts, films, and TV shows. Some of her notable works include Three Busy Debras, Sunday Morning All Star Hits!, and BoJack Horseman. She also impressed viewers with her performances in Cat Person, The Broken Hearts Gallery, Bad Education, and Blockers. Furthermore, she has some promising projects lined up, such as Apple TV+’s The Beanie Bubble and Ethan Coen’s Drive-Away Dolls.
Steve Buscemi as Morris “The Junkman” Rubinstein
Stepping into the shoes of Morris “The Junkman” Rubinstein, Steve Buscemi becomes the junk maestro of Boomtown. Amidst the collapsing world, Morris has managed to establish a thriving business, running a junk shop akin to a pawn shop. Despite his lack of concern for his employees, Morris takes immense pride in his junk empire and is mindful of his image and tax breaks. Morris, as Sid’s new employer, maintains a somewhat adversarial stance towards him.
Buscemi, a familiar face on the small and big screens, has left his mark in iconic movies like Reservoir Dogs and The Big Lebowski, along with indie films like The King of Staten Island and animated features such as The Boss Baby and Hotel Transylvania. His notable television work includes HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos, 30 Rock, and Portlandia, among others. He is set to appear in Vacation Friends 2 soon.
Jon Bass as Scraps the War Dog
Jon Bass brings to life the lovable character of Scraps the War Dog. Living a carefree life, Scraps enjoys the luxury of sleeping and relieving himself wherever he pleases. Loyal to Sid and Freya, Scraps is often treated to leftover meals. The bond he shares with the couple hints at a long-standing relationship.
Bass, a familiar face in film and television, has recently starred in Among the Beasts. He has also appeared in popular series like Grey’s Anatomy, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Super Pumped, and Room 104. His film credits include Molly’s Game, Baywatch (2017), and American Horror Story. Bass’s upcoming project, Bad Shabbos, wrapped up its filming in December 2022.
Karan Soni as TI-90
Karan Soni takes on the role of a kill-bot named TI-90, designed for humanity’s destruction. With a knack for parties, TI-90 is far from menacing and struggles to understand the dynamics of Freya and Sid’s relationship.
Soni boasts a diverse portfolio of television and feature roles, with his recent work in World’s Best and voicing in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. He is predominantly known for his role as Dopinder the taxi driver in the Deadpool franchise, a character he will reprise in Deadpool 3. He has also been seen in The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib, Karma’s World, and Mira, Royal Detective, among others.
Miracle Workers: End Times Guest Cast
Apart from the main cast, Miracle Workers: End Times will also feature Lolly Adefope from BBC’s Ghosts as a guest star. A part of the main cast in the first two seasons, Adefope played the roles of Rosie and Maggie. Erin Darke, who appeared in Season 3, is also rumored to return, portraying a character named Holly. The guest cast of Miracle Workers: End Times also includes Quinta Brunson, Garcelle Beauvais, Kyle Mooney, Ego Nwodim, Paul F. Tompkins, and Lisa Loeb.
Mark your calendars for the premiere of Miracle Workers: End Times on TBS on July 10, 2023. It promises to be an immersive, thrilling ride, a testament to human resilience, love, and the challenges they bring in a post-apocalyptic world.
