Kathryn Newton is blazing a trail as an emerging star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This veteran from Supernatural has made her way into Disney’s celebrated franchise through Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. She brings Cassie Lang to life – the offspring of Paul Rudd’s character, Scott Lang. Cassie is speculated to potentially evolve into a leading figure in the MCU as a member of the Young Avengers.
Newton’s entry into the MCU coincides with an upswing in her career. She recently featured alongside Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith in Detective Pikachu, and fronted the cast of the prematurely axed Netflix series, The Society, following her stint on Supernatural. Notably, it wasn’t an overnight success; she had long pursued a role in the MCU.
Recently, Disney+ showcased Marvel Studios’ Assembled: The Making of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. This special provided a peek behind the scenes, including footage of Newton auditioning for the role of Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. This tidbit came courtesy of a tweet from TavernaMarvel.
However, Hailee Steinfeld, another burgeoning actress known for her work in Bumblebee, Dickinson, and the Spider-Verse, landed the part of Clint Barton’s protégé.
Kathryn Newton and Hailee Steinfeld – Future Torchbearers of the MCU
The addition of these two actresses to the MCU’s roster might be instrumental for its future narratives. Their characters could very well serve as robust mainstays in the Universe’s forthcoming chronicles.
Post the departure of legendary characters like Steve Rogers and Iron Man, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker remains the saga’s symbolic beacon. Nonetheless, he must assemble a team from the apprentices of the heroes that once nurtured him.
This transition of generations has been subtly hinted at by the MCU since the conclusion of the Infinity Saga and the commencement of phases 4 and 5. These stages not only introduced television productions into the franchise but also unveiled characters that will play crucial roles in the upcoming ventures.
Notable heroes like Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, Scott Lang, and Doctor Strange are expected to continue their journey in the MCU’s future. Marvel Studios, however, intends to establish new teams such as the Thunderbolts or Young Avengers. They aim to transform these groups into the successors of the Avengers, continuing to develop individual movies and series, while simultaneously creating substantial crossovers.
Presently, there’s no official confirmation from Marvel Studios regarding a project that amalgamates the Young Avengers. However, it is highly likely that most characters who could constitute this team will feature in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars. These franchise crossovers are scheduled to hit the big screen in May 2026 and May 2027, respectively. The incoming era of the MCU promises to be just as compelling, driven by fresh faces and intriguing narratives.
