Affectionately known as the Merc with a Mouth, Wade Wilson or Deadpool, first emerged on the screen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a film that didn’t quite hit the mark with audiences. Nevertheless, viewers agreed that Ryan Reynolds embodied the character effortlessly, leading to his starring in two of the highest-grossing R-rated movies to date, Deadpool in 2016 and its sequel, Deadpool 2 in 2018. Both films showcased the bawdy, self-aware humor Deadpool is renowned for in the comics, leaving audiences in eager anticipation for more.

In an intriguing turn of events, Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019 marked the conclusion of the long-standing rivalry between the two companies over the X-Men franchise rights. The transition was not without bumps; X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants debuted to lukewarm responses. But the buyout offered a silver lining, enabling X-Men characters to feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). We’ve already seen a glimpse of this integration with the appearance of Evan Peters as Quicksilver in Wandavision and the return of Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Now, the MCU’s ongoing Multiverse Saga welcomes another fan-favorite – Deadpool. After a string of tantalizing hints, Ryan Reynolds confirmed on his YouTube channel that Deadpool 3 is in the pipeline, with a surprising twist. Want to know more about what’s in store for Deadpool’s MCU entrance, including an unexpected ally? Keep reading.

When Is Deadpool 3 Set to Hit Theaters?

Deadpool 3 has seen multiple shifts in its release date. Originally slated for September 6, 2024, it was pushed back to November 8, 2024. However, in an exciting turn of events, Disney brought the release date forward to May 4, 2024, placing it a whole four months earlier than first planned.

Is a Trailer Available for Deadpool 3?

As of now, no trailer for Deadpool 3 has been released. Filming isn’t expected to commence until 2023. However, Reynolds provided a sneak peek of what’s to come via a YouTube update.

In the video, Reynolds goes about his day, occasionally donning an iteration of Deadpool’s outfit reminiscent of the black and gray X-Force suit from the comics. He then drops a bombshell – Hugh Jackman saunters into the frame, seemingly unperturbed. Reynolds asks Jackman if he’d like to reprise his role as Wolverine, to which Jackman agrees. The video ends with a Deadpool poster adorned with Wolverine’s signature slash.

Is Deadpool 3 Part of the MCU?

Yes, Deadpool 3 is part of the MCU. This was confirmed by Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios. However, the extent to which the film will exist within the MCU remains uncertain. Given the existing Multiverse Saga, it’s plausible that we may witness a blend of characters from the 20th Century and MCU timelines. We’ll have to wait and see as plot details are currently shrouded in mystery.

Is Deadpool 3 Going to be R-Rated?

Bob Iger, former CEO of Walt Disney Company, and Kevin Feige have confirmed that Deadpool 3 will retain the R-rating from the previous films, indicating a potential for strong language and intense violence. If this promise holds true, Deadpool 3 will be the first MCU film with a rating for viewers 17 or older. The film’s director has assured Collider that Deadpool 3 will uphold the franchise’s adult-oriented ethos.

    Who’s Starring in Deadpool 3?

Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Deadpool. Accompanying him is Hugh Jackman, returning as Wolverine. The star-studded cast includes Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and many more. There are also rumors about the possible returns of Owen Wilson and Tara Strong, reprising their roles from Loki, as well as Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. One confirmed absentee from the cast is T.J. Miller.

    Who’s Behind Deadpool 3’s Creation?

Deadpool 3 will be directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on Stranger Things. Wendy Molyneux, Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, and Ryan Reynolds will contribute to the film’s script.

Where and When Is Deadpool 3 Being Filmed?

Shooting for Deadpool 3 began in London in May 2023, marking a departure from the filming locations of the previous films, which were shot in Vancouver, Canada.

Where Did We Last See Deadpool and Wolverine?

The last time we saw Deadpool was in Deadpool 2, where he was depicted as a snarky mercenary trying to cope with terminal cancer. He was subjected to an experimental treatment that gave him superhuman healing powers but at the cost of severe physical disfigurement. The saga that ensued is a blend of crude humor and uncontrolled chaos, making Deadpool 2 a must-watch for comic book fans.
